Do you provide samples?
Nope, but you can scope out our starter kit. It comes with a 30-serving tin of mud, a free frother, a sample of our coconut-based :creamer and a guide booklet. That way, you're set up for success.
It can take a few weeks to adjust to adaptogens and to feel the shift in your energy and mood. Our starter kit has 30 servings of mud to cover that window.
What does mud taste like?
Where are your mushrooms grown?
We source our mushrooms from M2 Ingredients in Carlsbad, California, where they are grown in a state-of-the-art, USDA-certified-organic indoor farm.
Do you use the fruiting body or mycelium of the mushrooms?
MUD\WTR contains four types of adaptogenic mushrooms: chaga, reishi, lion’s mane and cordyceps militaris. We use the entire growth cycle, including the mycelium and fruiting bodies, of the reishi, lion's mane and cordyceps. Chaga does not naturally produce fruiting bodies, so only the mycelium is used.
Each mushroom is sustainably and organically grown on oats, and the fresh mycelial biomass and fruiting bodies are air-dried at controlled temperatures, depending on the specific mushroom species, to preserve the bioactivity of temperature-sensitive active ingredients such as proteins, amino acids and extracellular compounds.
Where is mud made?
MUD\WTR started and is currently operated out of Venice, California. The ingredients in mud are sourced from around the world, from the Dominican Republic to India. All of the ingredients are brought together and packaged for you in Texas.
How much caffeine is in MUD\WTR?
Mud contains about 1/7th the caffeine as a 12-ounce cup of premium drip coffee. Caffeine in coffee can vary by up to 30mg depending on the beans and roasting method, according to the FDA. Though more subtle, the caffeine content of MUD\WTR can vary as well, but by blending a 6g serving of MUD\WTR in a 12-ounce cup of water, you will typically yield around 32mg of caffeine plus or minus a couple of milligrams. If you’re interested in less or no caffeine, stay tuned. We have a zero-caffeine version of mud in the works.
Can I consume more than one cup a day?
Mud is made with high-quality, food-safe ingredients and contains just 1/7th the amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee, so there's no need to limit your intake any more than you limit other foods in a balanced diet. However, if you are concerned that some of these ingredients may have a negative impact based on a health condition or medicine you're taking, ask your doctor before mixing up a cup.
Will this show up on a drug test?
Mud contains mushrooms, but not that kind. Unlike psilocybin, the adaptogenic mushrooms in mud will not show up on a drug test of any kind.
Can I drink mud if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
It’s best to ask your doctor.
Is mud vegan, kosher, gluten-free, non-GMO and/or organic?
Yep. All of the above.
Are you Whole30 approved?
Yes, we are Whole30 Approved® and loved by the community. Whole30 HQ has made an exception to the "no oats on the label" rule for MUD\WTR because we use organic oats as material to culture the mushroom blend. Because oats are not present in significant amounts in the final product, Whole30 determined that MUD\WTR is still Whole30 Approved and compatible during the program.
Why is there sediment?
There will always be a bit of sediment in the bottom of your cup because mud is made with 100% organic ingredients. We’d have to use fake stuff to get it to fully dissolve. Most of the sediment is cacao, which is one of the most antioxidant-rich foods on the planet but is not the most water soluble. We recommend adding a bit more water and giving it a swirl or a hit with the frother. If the frother isn’t your friend, some prefer to shake their mud up in a blender bottle (as you would with a protein shake) or mix it in a blender.
Does mud break my fast?
Mud contains 20 calories per serving. Most research shows that you’ll still experience the benefits of a fast if you stay below 50 calories.
How do I compost the compostable bags?
You have a few options:
1. Look up an industrial composter in your area that can take this packaging. Or, if you're lucky enough to live in a city that collects residential compost, find out if you can put the packaging in your bin.
2. Put it in a home compost bin. Be prepared for it to take a while to break down.
3. Composting not an option for ya? Go ahead and toss it. Yeah, it’s a bummer to send things to the landfill. We get it. This packaging started its life primarily from wood cellulose and bio-resins. That means we haven’t contributed to the use of petroleum in packaging and at least this item won’t add more toxic microplastics to the planet.
