That $hit's Sick!

The best podcasts, articles, videos and products we came across in June

Kyle Thiermann

There’s a lot of bullshit out there and nothing infuriates me more than a product that sucks or a clickbait article that serves empty calories. I have an obsessive personality. I test and sleuth and am on a never-ending quest to find stuff that delivers. The whole crew at Tw\B shares this affliction. We’re always texting podcasts, articles, videos and gear back and forth. Everything below is stuff we sign off on. It moved us to tears, made us clap with joy or was just plain helpful.

Henry Rollins: The One Decision that Changed My Life Forever
Rollins is best known as the lead singer of the punk band Black Flag, but he’s also a writer and deeply thoughtful dude. In this short interview he tells the story of working at an ice cream shop in DC, getting his shot and taking it. If it doesn’t light a fire under your ass, nothing will. "I don't have talent. I have tenacity,” says Rollins. “I have discipline. I have focus. I know, without any delusion, where I come from and where I can go back to.”

Power? No, Thanks, I’m Good: The freedom to say what I think and command my own time is enough for me.”
Writer and cartoonist Tim Kreider is fucking hilarious. But don’t be fooled, this New York Times op/ed forces some deep reflection and perhaps life course correction. What are you chasing and why? As Kreider writes, “I would define power as the ability to make other people do what you want; freedom is the ability to do what you want. Like gravity and acceleration, these are two forces that appear to be different but are in fact one.”

Helinox Zero Chair
This is the best lightweight backpacking chair I’ve ever found. It weighs less than one pound and is super compact. After a long day on the trails, bust out this little baby and your knees will sing “hallelujah!”

The Blaze live at Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix, France for Cercle
Planet Earth meets music festivals! Why hadn’t anyone thought of this before?! Cercle films full DJ sets in breathtaking locations around the world. If you have a TV in the living room, throw on a Cercle set in the background and enjoy the beauty and the beats.

A Meeting Makeover: Brené Brown with Priya Parker
How do you handle a meeting that isn’t working for everyone? Priya Parker is a master facilitator, strategic advisor and the author of “The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why it Matters.” If you want to improve your facilitation skills in meetings, this podcast can help.
