Taking a stand for psychedelics.

Shane Heath

If you haven’t noticed, we are in the middle of a mental health epidemic. Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Suicide is on the rise. PTSD, shootings, addiction… heard of them? When the center for thoughts and feelings (the mind) is in poor health, it creates a cascade of tragic outcomes and society pays the price.

Here at MUD\WTR, we believe in standing for bold solutions. That’s why every month we pool our earnings and donate a portion to The Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), an organization that develops medical, legal, and cultural contexts for people to benefit from the careful uses of psychedelics.

“Wait, are you guys supporting drugs?” you might ask. F*ck yes we are. And you should too. Here’s why.

In August of 2017, The FDA designated psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy as a breakthrough therapy, and they’re fast-tracking the research due to undeniable effectiveness shown by the work of MAPS. Even more promising is the efficacy of their treatments, which require only a few sessions and require no on-going medication. Working within the maze of regulations, MAPS is doing it right, helping a range of people from veterans suffering from PTSD to high school teachers with depression. They’re healing the mind, not just the symptoms, something that despite their pretty colors and profit margins, mainstream pharmaceuticals hasn’t been able to do.

The philosopher, Howard Zinn, once said that you can’t be neutral on a moving train. That’s why we are honored to support MAPS and speak up for this revolution in mental health care treatments.
